What Happened to US? From the Age of Ego to the Age of Love — book cover by Kindred Lights
A New Book by Kindred Lights

There is a reason nothing feels like it's working. And it is not the reason you think.

You see it. Your friends see it. The bookstore tables are full of people trying to name it. You don't need another opinion. You want the map.

From the author whose Thanksgiving table was rebuilt from wreckage — including a seat at the head of it for the man who had once been the adversary in a brutal custody battle. The same transformation, available at the scale of a country.

From the Back Cover

✦ Something happened to us. ✦

Something happened to us. Something hidden has been revealed. And we don't like what it shows us. There is a reason nothing feels like it's working. And it is not the reason you think.

What Happened to US? maps the hidden mechanism behind every trigger, every conflict, every system that is broken — and offers a five-step path through it. Not around it. Through it.

Three DUIs. A jail floor. Twenty years of sobriety.
A Thanksgiving table rebuilt from wreckage.

People who start where I started do not end up here.
That gap has a name. This book is about it.

What Is the Age of Ego?

The chaos is not a malfunction.

It is the inevitable result of eight billion ego scripts colliding — each one certain its quadrant is reality. The breakfast table. The boardroom. The Twitter war. The congressional hearing. The international conflict. Same mechanism, different stage.

What is wrong with all of it is not moral. It is structural. And once you see it, your relationship to all of it shifts — not because you stopped caring, but because you can finally see what is actually in front of you.

The Age of Ego is ending.
The Age of Love is arising.
One open heart at a time.

The Framework in One Image

Five Steps. Two Paths.

The same trigger sends every one of us down one of two paths. The Age of Ego path is the one most of us have been walking. The Age of Love path has been available the whole time.

Five Steps, Two Paths. The Hero's Path of Love. The Age of Love path: Identify Emotion → Feel It → Open Heart → Insight Arises → Right Action → Ease & Flow. The Age of Ego path: Identify Problem → Fix It → Closed Heart → Stuck in Story → Rinse & Repeat → Same Old Story. Heart consciousness changes everything.

Heart consciousness changes everything. Which path you take in the triggered moment determines what arrives next — for you, for the people you love, for the world the next generation inherits.

Early Recognition

"Thoughtful, engaging, and a beautiful symphony of hope within the struggle of life."

Hollywood Book Reviews

"Here is a teacher who believes in you."

Pacific Book Review

Colin Tipping — creator of Radical Forgiveness — called this story one of the most powerful demonstrations of his work he had ever witnessed. The forgiveness circle in these pages is his. The Thanksgiving table that resulted from it is hers.

The Credential

The macro and the micro run on the same mechanism.

Three DUIs. A jail floor. A custody battle with a narcissist. Four hours a week with three children. The specific unheroic work of rebuilding everything from nothing — one stepping stone, one triggered moment, one open heart at a time.

And then: twenty years of sobriety. Three children thriving. A Thanksgiving table that should have been impossible — including a seat at the head of it for the man who had once been the adversary.

The same transformation that happened in one family is available to all of us. The Age of Ego ends the same way it ends in every individual life — one person at a time, choosing differently in the moment it matters most.

About the Author

Kindred Lights

Kindred Lights writes from the other side of a collapse she did not see coming. Before it arrived, she studied the worldly ways — an MBA, a CPA, the systems and disciplines of business. She was competent in the world the ego respects, and she still hit the floor. The untimely death of her mother, an abusive marriage, and alcohol addiction brought her to her knees on a jail cell floor after her third DUI. In that moment, she realized she would have to fight for her life and her children, and that she would have to find the divine promise of transformation in order to do it.

For the past twenty years she has worked in nonprofit and spiritual community leadership. She is a certified yoga teacher. More importantly, she has developed the framework in this book to bring the divine promise into daily life — the moment-to-moment practice that turns the promise from theology into operational reality.

Her transformation is evidence that the divine intelligence works through our open hearts to create and fulfill our highest life purpose, no matter where we start out.
